ROXBURY – The Department of Natural Resources will host an Open House here Tuesday, Oct. 21, to provide information on chronic wasting disease (CWD) management efforts in Columbia and northwest Dane Counties.

The Open House will run from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Roxbury Town Hall, 7161 Kippley Rd., located near the northwest Dane County Village of Roxbury.

CWD is the fatal nervous system disease found in southwest Wisconsin’s local deer herd. Last fall, a wild deer shot in Sauk City tested positive for CWD, resulting in the expansion of the CWD Intensive Harvest Zone into southwest Columbia County and the larger CWD Herd Reduction Zone to include most of Columbia County.

DNR staff will be on hand to discuss the CWD Disease Eradication, Intensive Harvest and Herd Reduction Zones, deer hunting season frameworks, sampling and surveillance plans, and any other matters pertinent to CWD.

For more information, contact DNR wildlife biologist Pat Kaiser at 608-835-8123.
