Hunters can help protect Arizona’s deer and elk The Arizona Game and Fish Department needs 1,600 deer and elk heads to test for the possible presence of chronic wasting disease (CWD). Please bring the head of your recently harvested deer or elk to any department office between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Place the head in a heavy plastic garbage bag for delivery. Keep the head cool and out of the sun, if possible. You will be notified of CWD test results by postcard within four weeks.

CWD is a fatal neurological disease that affects deer and elk. There is no evidence that CWD affects humans, according to the World Health Organization and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
