ALBUQUERQUE – Nine hunters who voluntarily reported their 2005-2006 harvest results or had their animal tested for chronic wasting disease were rewarded with opportunities to hunt elk in the Valle Vidal or oryx at White Sands Missile Range.

Seven of 14,713 hunters who reported their harvest results received hunt authorizations under the Department of Game and Fish’s special Incentive Draw program. The authorizations — two for Valle Vidal elk hunts and five for oryx hunts — are transferable, meaning they can be sold or given away as gifts. The winning hunters included one New Mexico resident and six nonresidents.

Two lucky Albuquerque hunters who volunteered to have their animals tested for chronic wasting disease received authorizations for one Valle Vidal elk hunt and one White Sands oryx hunt. They were among 360 hunters who participated in the testing program, which will be conducted again for the 2006-2007 season.
