MADISON – A new interactive map that allows viewers to check on the number of deer tested for chronic wasting disease in their area is now available on the Department of Natural Resources Web site at http://maps.dnr.state.wi.us/cwd/

The new mapping feature allows people to search the testing effort at a variety of scales including county, deer management unit, city or village, township and range and others. Viewers can also learn the degree of confidence researchers have in the sample collected in specific areas.

“This reporting method makes full use of the capabilities of the Internet to bring important sampling information to folks in their homes,” said Tom Hauge, director of wildlife management for the DNR. “We are committed to widely sharing CWD information with the public. Our CWD sampling effort this past fall was unprecedented in scale and we are working hard to deliver the test results as soon as we can.”
