FITCHBURG – The Department of Natural Resources has added a fifth agency operated deer registration/collection station to better serve hunters now through the traditional nine-day gun season in the western chronic wasting disease (CWD) Eradication Zone (DEZ).

Heck’s Farm Market, 7266 State Highway 14, Arena, will be open weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) beginning Nov. 5-6 and throughout the nine-day gun season, Nov. 19-27. The phone number is 608-225-3786.

DNR is also operating four deer registration/collection stations in the western DEZ through Jan. 3, 2006. These stations, like the one in Arena, will register and collect deer heads for CWD testing from deer harvested in the DEZ and the much larger CWD Herd Reduction Zone, along with accepting field-dressed DEZ deer for donation to food pantries.

The four stations are located next to the Eagle Mart Stop-N-Go, 8029 STH 151, Barneveld, 225-6198; Norslein’s Wood Works, 4738 STH 78, Black Earth, 225-6178; Countryside Lanes, 1255 CTH F, Hollandale, 225-7391; and Franklin Town Hall, 550 Main St. (CTH B), Plain, 225-2391.

Hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., weekends, through Nov. 18. Beginning Nov. 19 and running through Jan. 3, operating hours will be 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. weekdays, and 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. weekends.
