RICHLAND CENTER – The Department of Natural Resources will host an Open House here Thursday, Aug. 28, to provide information on chronic wasting disease (CWD) management efforts in Richland County.

The Open house will run from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Wallace Student Center cafeteria on the campus of the University of Wisconsin – Richland, 1200 State Highway 14, Richland Center.

CWD is the fatal nervous system disease found in southwest Wisconsin’s local deer herd. Last fall, a two-year-old female deer shot in the Richland County Town of Orion tested positive for CWD.

DNR staff will be on hand to discuss the Disease Eradication Zone centered in Orion Township, the inclusion of deer management unit 71 in the Herd Reduction Zone, deer hunting season frameworks, sampling and surveillance plans, and any other matters pertinent to CWD.

For more information, contact DNR wildlife biologist Ron Lichtie at 608-375-4231.
