VERNAL – The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources will hold deer check stations during the rifle hunt to collect biological data and tissue samples for chronic wasting disease. The stations will be at the following locations:

Red Cloud Loop station will be located at the turnout with Highway 191 on Saturday, Oct. 18 and Monday October 20. The Manila site, north of Manila on HWY 43, will be open Sunday, October 19.

The Strawberry Reservoir station, located at the Highway 40 and the Co-Op Creek Road, and the Wolf Creek Pass Station will be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday, October 18, 19 and 20.

The east and west Book Cliffs Stations, will be manned Saturday, Sunday and Monday, October 18, 19 and 20, as will the Brush Creek Station on the Diamond Mountain Road.

During the week, Monday through Friday, deer may be brought to the regional office, 152 E. 100 N. in Vernal, and the Fisheries Station in Dutch John from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Another check station, located at the UDOT road shed on west Highway 40 in Roosevelt, will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, October 21, 22, 25 and 26 respectively.

Roving conservation officers will also collect additional tissue samples throughout the hunt
